Lacan: We're always torn between the versions of ourselves that are impulsive and affective. He says language allows these two parts of self to open up and remain in a differential relation. The question he then wants to ask is, at the very top of 805 in the French, where is desire situated in relation to a subject defined on the basis of his articulation by the signifier? Where is desire in the midst of all this?
