Walter Badgett believed that most people were simply too stupid to understand parliamentary government and needed a royal family to distract them. His ideas have been so influential that a teacher from Eton was dispatched to give the late Queen lessons about them at Windsor Castle when she was young. He's saying there are certain things that hold us together as a species which we can contemplate when they affect members of the royal family.
