The Right Handedness of Molecules in Medicine
If you had a pocket of organisms that do it differently, they don't have the same access to nutrients as the larger population. One area where it's really important to be able to make the right handedness of molecule is in medicine. A harmless example is iby prophin. It's only one that actually does anything useful. The other one's completely useless. So when you take ibe prophin, half of what you're taking doesn't do anything because it's cheaper not to filter it out. Just take twice as much.
