Childcare - What's the Big Story in This Budget?

In 2000, we spent around a billion pounds per year on subsidizing childcare and early education. That then doubled in real terms by 2010. It's then doubled again in real terms since 2010. And with yesterday's announcements, it's set to double yet again before 2027. So we'll be spending around 8 billion pounds a year. We could go on about tax rages, we are after all the Institute for Fiscal Studies,. but we probably need to move on.
