The Importance of Nature in Rousseau's Life

Rousseau's A Meal, published in 1762, describes the imaginary education of a boy by a single tutor. He tries to design another form of education that could give us again certain advantages of social life and civilization but without these fatal disadvantages. The counterpart to civilization is the ability to escape into nature; Rousseau sees this as part of his critique of civilization.
