During this time frame late 1514 and early 1515, Padreas began to send out his newly arrived conquistadors on missions to acquire treasure. They would ravage any place that they saw, steal gold and pearls, and enslave those that they could. The Caribbean islands such as Ispaniola and Jamaica were in constant need of slaves, as the island's natives were dying off rapidly due to diseases brought from Europe. These excursions sent out by Padreas were met with mixed success; it also helped to destroy the general goodwill that had been established under Balboa.
