The author grew up in a world where masculinity and toxic masculinity were seen as very biblical. She found that the evidence for militant christian masculinity wasn't drawn from the bible directly. Instead it was drawn from hollywood heroes like william wallace, john wayne with some bible verses sprinkled here or there interest by. The term 'toxic masculinity' can put off conservatives because of its loaded connotations.
