The Rise of Portable Sewing Machines
In the 19th century portable sewing machines extended a laborers day for laborers who were working in mills or in factories where they were producing textiles. Now our laptops had effectively gotten even smaller and we could put them in our pockets, it wasn't even a burden to carry them around with us - now our work day is basically just omnipresent. This is why in countries like France right there are laws that are at least allowing workers the right to not have to answer emails on weekends or outside of working hours if they don't want to. But in the United States we don't have those same protections and those expectations continue to creep.
