The Origins of Augustine's Original Sin

In the city of God, Augustine rallies behind corporeal resurrection. He knew that platonic philosophy and its much later Christian affiliates' Gnosticism and Manicaeism theorized a severance between body and soul at the moment of death. To Platonism and Neo-Platonism, Augustine strongly insists that people's bodies are parts of their afterlives. After death, Augustine writes, dwelling among celestial rivers people will not need to eat, although they'll be able to if they want to.
