The Origins of the Sicilian Colonists
Greeks started to arrive in Sicily in the 730s BC if the textual record is to be believed. They gravitated toward different areas and different kinds of sites than the Phoenicians. The Greeks preferred sites with access to large amounts of good agricultural land. These new settlements were initially pretty small, but grew rapidly.
