Kristin Drexler: When we think about bankruptcy, we often envision companies that are having significant financial problems. She says a different way that companies are using bankruptcy is to take care of mass torts lawsuits. Drexle: Johnson & Johnson had lots of lawsuits that alleged their talcum powder caused cancer. The company decided to put all these claims in a subsidiary and then file this subsidiary for bankruptcy.
