Movie "Mary Magdalene" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop
We have an opportunity today with this movie because it cuts through all the ego's objections. It gives us a glimpse into all the aspects of resistance that we've had towards surrendering our will to God and God's will for perfect happiness. It shows us parts of the ego that we've guarded and protected and tried to keep, even though it brought us misery and suffering and sadness and hurt.
It sounds ridiculous, but you know, Jesus tells us that the secret of salvation is that you are doing this to yourself. So, on the one hand, we don't have anyone to blame, and on the other hand, we can accept the correction, release the ego, and be happy. It's that simple. Now, it may seem difficult in practice, but I assure you that it's much more challenging to maintain the ego and try to live according to the ego's belief system than to let it go.
A Course of Miracles teaches us how to trust in God and follow the guidance practically. It's teaching us how to let go of the ego, let go of attachments, let go of judgments, not because we're trying to be special, good, or right, but just because judgment is something God did not create. So we're giving ourselves a whammy. An opinion and judgment whammy, because when we try to judge, when we have opinions, we're trying to hold on to something that God didn't create and doesn't even know about. And that's not going to work if you want to be happy.
