In the 1980s, Intel had six manufacturing plants with different sets of equipment and processes. The problem was that each plant manager had absolute rule over what went on in their factory. In 1990, Intel changed this by creating a network of closely linked factories. This has given some notoriety called copy exactly - every one of our factories today looks the same.
