The Disappointment of Lincoln
Most people would have regarded him until very recently as being an unassailable figure. Even despite the efforts of some southern white supremacists to claim him as one of their own, that's a little too perverse for my taste. But they've remained hostile to him on ideological grounds. The old right saw in Lincoln a grotesque exertion of executive power.
