Part One: The Second American Civil War You Never Learned About

Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

The Battle of Mucklow

In 1912, West Virginia declared martial law and activated the state militia to pull both sides apart from one another. The militias were made up primarily of upper middle-class gentry who had an instinctive hatred of low income immigrant laborers. Many of them stayed on as mine guards for the coal companies, which provided them with enough security to reopen the mines with more scabs. By January, the strike had been broken, but it started up again in February leading to a third declaration of martial law. So this is not going super well for anybody really. This is a civil war I could get behind. Absolutely. Definitely a better civil war than the last one.
