The Characteristics of Folk Music

Folk music is an oral tradition. The fiddle comes from possibly a Latin word, vitula, which means celebrate or joyful. I think it basically going back to the earliest kind of folk music, it would have been to kind of have a party. So, folk really comes from this sort of communal, you know, being part of whether it's a celebration or just in the pub and it's really for the people.
