We've never historically asked high schools to teach all students the same thing. The rise of universal high school education in the US was very much around differentiation, and not everybody needs to learn the same things. And even if you're in a vocational technical school, you're still going to have to learn all this academic material. So then there are all of these downstream difficult consequences for kids in schools.
