Introduction

In 1967, Jimmy Hendrix was a fan of an all-female rock band from San Francisco. The Ace of Cups gave it a good shot, but by 1972 they'd broken up. punk brought in new egalitarian values, and fans embraced groups fronted by or led by women. Deborah Harry and Blondie, Chrissy Heine and the Pretenders, Patty Smith, Susie and the Banshees were among those who influenced us through the 90s.
