The Importance of Understanding the Purpose of Spiritual Direction
The difference between spiritual direction, counseling or their end is important to understand. A priest in spiritual direction isn't going to play the role of mental health counselor and help me deal with some sort of Mental Health issue. What a spiritual director does is try to accompany. Try to accompany the individual on that path. To help him or her enter more perfectly into the divine life. And so as to seek ways to help the individual consent to and cooperate with grace more excellently, more freely, more generously.
