China's Empire Is Not Just History
Russia has been an expansionist empire since at least the fifteenth century. There's also china, a vast overland empire which rightly views itself as having suffered from western imperial greed in the nineteenth century. Despite ti wan possessing a complex indigenous history, chinese rulers laid claim to the land in the seventeenth century. In the united states too, imperial habits still have repercussions. When donald trump floated the idea of the us Purchasing greenland in 20 19, this was widely dismissed as just another trumpian eccentricity. As events in ukraine illustrate, varieties of empire linger on in multiple continents and imperial appetites and attitudes still possess bite.
