Trotsky and the Red Army
The bolsheviks had never intended to implement the system of worker owned and operated factories that their declarations of 19 17 seem to indicate. In retrospect, we can all see clearly that those declarations were mostly about securing support from the workers for the october revolution. But some members communist party, particularly those around trotsky, now laid plans to move beyond even the basic nationalization and centralization programme. The one institution that had really shined over the past several years was the red army. Trotsky believed that the military might now serve as the model for the economy as a whole.
