When i was an undergraduate in canada and a bit thereafter, i had this kind o sense that you really have to develop a full outline. And then when you've got a grand scheme set up, almost on a board in front of you with connective sort of lines and vectors, that's when you real get going. You write very carefully, very systematically, proceeding from a to b, and end up at zed. By the way, i should say, I haven't written that many books at all.
