The Persecution of the Church of Ireland

The church of ireland showed little ability to evangelize. Livings were so poor it was difficult to recruit ministers. Observance of the catholic religion was fairly open. Catholics were made j p s and sheriffs on a large scale. Catholic priests often lived in the houses of the gentry, saying mass openly. There remained a strong tradition of peripatetic catholic primary schoolmasters. But all i'm saying is that persecution is patchy and periodic and presents an oddly mixed picture. Which brings us to the plantations of ulster.
