This chapter delves into the concept of vulnerability in professions and artistic expressions, highlighting the balance between personal vulnerability and professional duties. From the misconception of vulnerability in creative work to reflections on individual vulnerability levels, the discussion delves into the multifaceted nature of vulnerability in different contexts.
This week, Kat is talking about Performative vulnerability again. Performative vulnerability is what happens when we use sharing (or oversharing) parts of our lives in order to gain something in return, such as attention or feelings of superiority. It can look like an example of altruism on the outside; risking judgment for the greater good of others feeling less alone or more connected. However, the intentions of those who engage in this are far from selfless. And although it is super frustrating when we see this displayed around us, this episode is less about how we can call others behavior out and more about how we can learn to pay better attention to our intentions and our actions.
