The Importance of Deuteronomy 18 in Acts Chapter 3

In Acts chapter 3, verse 22 and 23, we read this quotation from Deuteronomy. It reads as follows: Every soul which will not hear that prophet shall be destroyed from among the people. The fundamental point behind Peter's citation of Deuteronomy 18 doesn't seem to point to Jesus's earthly ministry but rather is anticipating his second coming. And then if we read this with the Book of Mormon as a lens, whenever this passage is invoked, consistently it pertains to Christ's second coming.
