Yale has a tradition of having as chairman. And then when the department of architecture became its own independent school, as deans practising architecs. It's apro ona school with a practising architect so that it doesn't lose touch with the purpose of architectural education. Which is what george said in a well known, i often quoted, at least a while ago, an essay he wrote, published in perspective.
