You don't build your network, you earn your network. Nobody's going to bend over backwards and hand you opportunities or wealth. You have to get successful on your own first. Relationships are time commindments. Real movers and shakers aren't hanging out at neck networking events. They're not hanging out on college campuses. There's a big difference between making friends and building a network. To turn that into a network, you have to accomplish something. It comes after success.
