What Is the Consumer Price Index?
After yesterday's crazy action, the market initially took a dive in response to an overheated consumer price index number. The CPI is not merely some data point; it has real-world significance because so many other things are actually pegged to it. Just yesterday we learned that there'll be an 8.7% increase in Social Security next year to offset inflation. That's all down to the hot CPI readings we've been getting.
