What Is an Assault Weapon?
Congress decided that anything that looked scary in particular ways qualified as an assault weapon. Gun violence was already going down when this ban went into effect. It kept going down throughout the entire time the ban was in effect. And then when the ban disappeared, it kept going down more. That ban had nothing to do with diminishing gun violence in the United States.
