In the early nineteenth century, secular republican intellectuals were terrified that france was going to be filled with catholic poles. But after the fall of the empire and the collapse of the cities, there was actually a very little demographic impact on that sort of thing. The religious do have a more offspring, but then we obviously have cultural change. And yet, if in the short term, it's always defined by churn switching and ideological shift, don't you think that might mitigate or dampen the significance of these insights?
