You can have populiss on the right, on the left, up and down, north, south. Populism is more a set of tactics, tricks and strategy to obtain and retain. And they used them in conjunction with polarization and the soving and amplifying of societa division and wages or porstruth which had always existed under the name of propaganda. It has acquired a new hue and a new form, a new way of influencing dynamics of power.
