She was known as queen of the blue stockings. But like karen said, she didn't really hold court. She created a space for the life the mind. And we have to remember that women couldn't go to university at this time and they were expected not to speak. They were to be seen and not heard. Ah to be clever awoman was very difficult. To display it in a fashionable metropolitan context was very new. It's fascinating to see how carefully she manages her money. She sas it's extraordinary.
