The Evolution of Epiglottitis in Emergency Medicine

Dr. Himmel will be speaking at the Virtual EM cases summit November 11th to 13th. After universal immunization for hemophilus influenza B began in the 1980s and then became truly widespread in the 90s, epiglottitis became increasingly rare in children. At the same time, it became a lot more common in adults. There's still a rare disease, about one to three cases per 100,000 patient encounters reported in the literature.
