Frederick the Great's War on Prussia
Prussia was under threat from three directions, with no great power ally on the European mainland. Frederick's wars had all but destroyed the military, carefully built up by his predecessors. Still, Prussia on the eve of the French Revolution was riding high. They were flexing their muscles abroad. As you might remember they were the ones the Dutch government called on to suppress the Patriots.
