What the Hell Is Caviar?
Caviar is the row or eggs of the female sturgeon, most of whose 27 species live in fresh water. It comes from the Cura River, which drains into the Caspian Sea from modern day Azerbaijan and Georgia. As far back as the fourth century BC, the Greek philosopher Stuttler was tucking into caviar. Even by the second century BC, one jar of caviar could fetch 100 sheep.
