The Evolution of the Beard

Research from 20 20 argues that beards protect the skin and bones of the face when human males fight. The lower jaw, which is superficially cove ed by the beard, is one of the most commonly fractured facial bones in interpersonal violence. Another possibility is that beards evolved for intro sexual competition among males. Maybe they're supposed to make you look more formidable and dominant and encourage respect and deference.
