The Lajukas and Ashoka
Ashoka has given officers authority over hundreds of thousands of people, with the absolute right to punish or reward them as they see fit. Those who are condemned to death are given three days for their relatives to convince ashuka's officers, or for them to perform faces and austerities to improve their after life. In other inscriptions, ashoka mentions number of other officers, itijaka maha mata, the officer who keeps an eye on women, and the maha mta nagala viohalaka, the city officer o judicial affairs. Because Ashoka isn't exactly a feminist, so of course, women must be controlled and policed by his officers.
