20: Maidan and Self-Understanding with guest lecturer Marci Shore
The Making of Modern Ukraine
The Maidan and Time and Revolution
Guy Orteleva: I'm not really a political historian per se. One of the things that struck me most about the accounts people were giving on the Maidan was how everybody started talking about how they lost track of time. Something happens to time during a revolution. It changes its form. You can't remember what happened an hour ago, what happened the day before,. What happened a week before. The state of affairs that obtained five minutes ago could become completely irrelevant five minutes later. That suddenly there was, there was an effacing of the boundary between night and day. And you're kind of shaken into understanding the present as the moment of the possibility of going beyond.
