The Great Vowel Shift in English Spelling

Yuppies started to make sounds which marked them out from the common people. And it seems to have start off this great change. The best examples that come out of this are to do with the way we spell words. People say english spelling is weird, and it doesn't actually relate to the way we pronounce words now. It's all to do with a big social change around the time shakespeare was writing. That's called the great vowel shift. Not just one, but a whole lot of different long vowels in the language of the time really went walk about.
