Is There a Line Between Suffering and a Social Safety Net?
Dr. Green says he is familiar with the case of an Ontario woman who chose to end her life because she could not find affordable housing that would accommodate her chemical sensitivity. "I think we need to allow patients to decide when they are suffering intolerably and have been informed" about available resources, Dr. Green says. He adds there's a line between suffering that certainly has no end in sight and can't be alleviated; and suffering that theoretically could be alleviated if government or someone else would step in with just money.
