What We Don't Know About Julian of Norwich
I was struck by how apt your little chapter on Julian of Norwich was and how poignant her story is for us. An anchorist or an anchorite, if you were a man, was a kind of designated prayer person in a church. She would have taken her vows and been literally walled in probably to this chamber which she wouldn't leave until her death. And so there she is, right, connected to like her earthly needs to the world and to the church. If you need somebody to pray for you at three in the morning in medieval England, the anchorite isn't going anywhere!
