The constructive theory of emotion helps us understand how emotions are formed and how we can change them. If you feel deeply hurt because a friend didn't respond to your really important message, that emotion is as real to you whether it's based on factual information or not. So what you have to do is then look at the facts that are leading to the emotion. And sometimes they are off. But sometimes you find that they are right and the situation is what you perceive.
