Paul simon had already been singing in public from an early age. First performance by salmon and garfuncle was at a high school dance. The jew also wrote at least one song together as early as 19 55, or at least garfuncle says they wrote it together. They tried to get a record deal with the song, but it was never recorded at the time. But simon has later performed it.
