Functional disorders can be caused by over-stimulation of the brain. Symptoms include dizziness, fatigue and speech problems. John stone is a neurology professor at the university of edinburgh in scotland. He says functional disorders should be on the table when people are diagnosed. But he doesn't think there's enough evidence for havana sindrum to qualify as a mass psychogenic illness. Some have even gone so far as to say it could be contagious.

Several years after US diplomats in Cuba claimed they were attacked by an invisible weapon, similar incidents continue to be reported around the world. Scientists haven’t been able to determine a definitive cause, but the possibilities point toward something just as mysterious as the illness itself: the inner workings of the human brain.
