Secondary brain injury is caused by an inbalance between cerebral metabolic demand and the energy substrats. There are many causes of secondary brain injury after cardiacres including micro circulatory disfunction, excit toxicity, inflammation, cerebral edema, impaired auto regulation, fever, shivering and seizures.
