Don't add to the stress subtract to the stress. Get off of this thing that and this is partly driven by parents but it's also partly driven by the internalized fears and anxieties that children themselves have about their future. Kids who go to a non prestigious college do just as well in life by every measure, including income at age 40,. If you control for those other things, then the kids who go to the local state college are equally successful. You're more likely to get good letters of recommendation from professors on a first name basis than if you go to an Ivy League school.
