The Moon's Origins

There are a huge range of possibilities as to how the moon came into existence. One explanation is that atoms in the moon are equilibrated with those in the Earth. There's been some clever ways of getting this without actually landing on the moon. A mission launched in 2011 could measure features not just on the surface, but deep in the moon's structure.
