Is There a Future for Open Access?
While open access has democratized access to content, it's created an equity crisis when it comes to who can actually afford to publish their manuscript. Many in the global south are still not able to afford the article processing charges that journals levy and many of these journals are based in the global north. There also needs to be better and more easily understandable waiver policies on the part of publishers.
