Is There a Better Way to Deal With the Afghan Crisis?

I don't know whether or not there was a better way to handle the troop withdrawal at the very last stage. Almost everybody had lost hope that you'd be able to continue fighting this war and improve the situation. The US seized what, about 7 billion in Afghan assets as compensation for 9-11. It's heartbreaking every time I go back just how badly off people are. This is already one of the poorest countries in the world prior to the collapse.
