The severity of the gait disturbance is absolutely correlated with the likelihood of having a stroke as the ultimate cause. It's actually exceedingly rare to see a vicivilneritus patient who can't stand or can't sit with arms crossed at the bedside, without being propped up by something. So our er colleagues are right to be concerned. O nobody should be wheeled out of the emergency departmentin a ca, as one of my patients was when i was a resident.
